MUSINGS....

What happened to interesting movies and comics?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was good, however, I was disenchanted at the license taken with the character.

My son & I went.  He was not impressed.  I enjoyed the show.  Just not nearly as much as I'd hoped.  Why did Marvel allow so many characters to be used in this? Seemed a bit of a waste.  Deadpool should have been held in reserve as well as Gambit. Both were used in a flimsy manner.  No depth.  The twist on Silver Fox wasn't appreciated either.  Should have stuck with the Silver Fox from around Wolverine #65.

Transformers was good, but again diappointing.  I had heard Sideswipe was going to be in this movie. Again, my son & I went.  Both of us liked it.  I was still a bit disappointed.  I didn't get to see Star Trek but heard from many people it was very good.  Haven't seen Harry Pooter yet either, but would really like to see it.

Why can't Hollywood keep their meddling, ignorant hands off things?  The feel the need to 'modernize' concepts and characters.  I doubt that 20 years in the future you will see things like Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats and He-Man though of so fondly.  Nothing has come out to take their place.  Instead the Hollywood underbelly decides to recycle and ruin memories.  Nothing new.  And when old things are recycled, current writers are clueless as to what made them great to start with.  Where are things that were fun years ago?

Is it the writers or me?  Have I lost touch with what made things great back then?  I can go read a stack of old comic books from the 80s (Thor, Iron Man, Avengers...) and they are so much better than the things published today.  The slick paper that jacked the cover price up does nothing for me.  Where is the story within?  What happed to Roger Stern, John Byrne, Bill Mantlo?

Oh well, here is to old farts....
